LG sues Samsung for slander

Image from Freeadvice.comIt’s Korea vs. Korea again. This time, it’s a war on the electronics front, as LG sues compatriot Samsung for allegedly coming up with advertisements making false and defamatory claims over LG’s high-end digital television series. The ads concerned LG’s plasma TV with a built-in hard drive and PVR functionality. Samsung’s advertisements allegedly suggested that the LG sets needed a noisy cooling system–which LG claimed otherwise–and had a lower rated lifespan of 20,000 hours as opposed to LG’s rating of 50,000 hours.

Digital Chosunilo reports:

Samsung stands accused of unfair comparative advertising without objective assessment of the facts, which LG says is tantamount to defamation. The company said the courts are its only recourse if it wants to stop Samsung’s advertising campaign because of the potential losses it could suffer amid soaring demand for PDP TVs ahead of the 2006 World Cup.

Samsung’s 80-inch Plasma for a mere $150,000

Samsung 80-inch Plasma

So how much is too much? How big is too big? Is 80 inches of pure plasma goodness for $150 grand too big and too much? I don’t think so.

From Engadget:

So Samsung is busting out the largest purchasable plasma display for those of you with 150 grand burning a hole in your pocket and a really, really large wall to put this in front of. They’re targeting artsy institutions but we just know somebody is going to be watching the super bowl on this baby come February—so feel free to invite your friendly neighborhood Engadget staff member, okay? We really don’t need very many excuses to desire an 80-inch plasma, (let’s think: 80-inch? Check. Plasma? Double check.) but just in case you did need some greater purpose behind your longings, how about the fact that it does 1080 HD capability and has a 2000:1 contrast ratio? Yeah, okay, you get back with us on that.

*sarcasm* I am sure I will be able to afford one of those soon */sarcasm*

Samsung SyncMaster 242mp

Samsung SyncMaster 242mp PC Magazine has a great review of the SyncMaster 242mp, and the bottom line on this television is:

At $1,600 (street), the 242mp doesn’t come cheap, but it is properly priced for what you get. For example, the Dell w2600 26-inch widescreen TV/monitor costs $1,399 (direct), but is only a 1,280-by-768 panel. So whether you’re looking for a conference room presentation monitor with multimedia capabilities and outstanding picture quality, or a do-it-all entertainment display, the Samsung SyncMaster 242mp should be on your short list.
