LG Gold Plated 71″ Plasma TV

LG Gold Plated TV

LG was reported to have been showing off at CeBit the most expensive TV the world has yet seen. The LH-C643 home theatre system features a 71-inch plasma display and 24K gold-plated body. It’s not exactly a new model, though, having been introduced mid-2005. With a price tag of 80 million Korean Won (about US$ 82,500) and a limited production (only 1,000 units), you’d have to have a lot of cash stashed in the bank and good connections in your addressbook to get one, not to mention a spacious living room.

But this golden beauty would have you become the envy of the entire neighborhood.

What else could we expect from a company formerly known as Lucky Goldstar.

Samsung’s 80-inch Plasma for a mere $150,000

Samsung 80-inch Plasma

So how much is too much? How big is too big? Is 80 inches of pure plasma goodness for $150 grand too big and too much? I don’t think so.

From Engadget:

So Samsung is busting out the largest purchasable plasma display for those of you with 150 grand burning a hole in your pocket and a really, really large wall to put this in front of. They’re targeting artsy institutions but we just know somebody is going to be watching the super bowl on this baby come February—so feel free to invite your friendly neighborhood Engadget staff member, okay? We really don’t need very many excuses to desire an 80-inch plasma, (let’s think: 80-inch? Check. Plasma? Double check.) but just in case you did need some greater purpose behind your longings, how about the fact that it does 1080 HD capability and has a 2000:1 contrast ratio? Yeah, okay, you get back with us on that.

*sarcasm* I am sure I will be able to afford one of those soon */sarcasm*

Panasonic Plasma Price Drops

PanasonicThe more the price of a good Plasma or LCD drops, the more likely I am to buy it…someday. Panasonic has recently confirmed that to mark the occasion of being the market learder in Plasma televisions, it will drop prices to make them even more appealing. With the new pricing, a 42-inch plasma from Panasonic will run just under $2,000 for the first time.

Starting September 1, Panasonic will reduce the suggested retail prices of its Plasma TVs by an average $500. “Plasma has become the standard against which all other TVs are measured,” said Andrew Nelkin, vice president of Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company’s Display Group. “And we are very pleased to be at the front of the plasma movement. Panasonic Plasma TV represents a very attractive proposition for consumers — superb color and picture quality in a large screen flat-panel TV at much more affordable prices.”
